Dr. David Castillejos is a distinguished physician in the field of Refractive and cataract surgery, many of his own patients are physicians within the community. He has been at the cutting edge of the New Technology and is at the Forefront of every new advancement for the correction of the refractive errors. As a physician Dr. Castillejos is compassionate and cares tremendously about his patients. As a Surgeon be has developed new surgical techniques, has designed new surgical instruments and has contributed widely to the advancement of ophthalmology.

With a Fellowship training in Refractive surgery as well as Retina and Vitreous diseases he offers excellent total quality of care that meet each individuals needs. Dr Castillejos has developed new surgical techniques and is the first surgeon in the world to successfully implant the Vision Membrane Intraocular lens and first surgeon in the world to correct simultaneously both distant and near vision by means of implantation of a phakic multifocal intraocular lens. Dr. Castillejos is part of the team of investigators that created the Vision Membrane Intraocular Lens along with other prominent scientists, Dr. Lee Nordan and Dr. Morris, PHD. He is a pionner in the treatment of presbyopia, pionner in the pharmalogical modification of the vitreous structure to assist in the treatment of eye disease, inventor of an implant to reduce the intraocular pressure promising help to people affected with glaucoma.

Cloudiness of the natural lens.

The natural lens focuses incoming light into retina. In somes cases the lens becomes cloudy, causing blurry vision. The Cloudy lens is known as a cataract.

The treatment for cataract today is very effective and safe in most cases sutures are not even necessary.

Involves the use of premium intraocular lenses and/or techniques to eliminate or decrease the need for distance and near glasses, post cataract surgery.

How it works?

Laser Vision Correction is a procedure that reshapes the cornea with an excimer laser to improve the eye's focusing power. When the overall shape of the eye or the curvature of the cornea is incorrect, the visual images are not in focus. By surgically changing the corneal curvature, most or all of the blur can be eliminated. The excimer laser uses a computer controlled ultraviolet beam of light to sculpt the cornea into the shape required to bring light to focus more directly on the retina, thereby reducing or eliminating a variety of refractive errors.

Type of refractive errors:

The word refraction refers to the way light rays are focused.
Refractive errors include the following:

Hyperopia:
Farsightedness. Patient can not see up close. Must wear glasses to see close objects clear. As age advances intermediate and distance vision may become blurry.
Myopia:
Nearsightness. Patient can not see far objects. Your ability to see at distance is very limited.
Astigmatism:
Patient see's blurry at far and near. The power of the cornea is not equal in all meridians thus light fails to focus to create a clear image.
Presbyopia:
Aging eye, the inability to see up close. As we get to 40-45 years of age the need for glasses to see reading material or objects situated within a short distance increases. Ultimately 100% of the population will require reading glasses or bifocals.
